5 Motivation Tips to Stop Negative Self-Talk

You must have heard the expression, appreciate yourself and be your critic. This means that you should evaluate your own wins and reflect on your shortcomings. During the low moments in life, the process of internal evaluation can turn into a series of negative self-talks—the inner critical voice. Your sentences may sound like, I am not good enough; I cannot achieve success despite the hard work; Why does it happen to me all the time? etc. All these sentences have negative connotations attached to them that make you doubt your capabilities and lower your self-confidence.

Repetitive negative self-talk and thoughts are harmful for your mental wellbeing. When you continually talk to yourself in a bad way, you eventually start to believe that you are not good enough. The impact of negative self-talk is so powerful that you may not put in the desired efforts, thinking that you will not be able to achieve your goal, in contrast to the fact that the goal is well attainable. 1) Make Affirmations: Affirmations are positive phrases and statements that you tell yourself to challenge your negative thought patterns. I am grateful for what I have, I am confident, I am more than enough, etc. are positive statements that, when you say to yourself daily, enhance your self-confidence and give you the courage to deal with difficult situations with a sense of calmness and optimism.

2) The Power of Positive Self Talk: Positive self-talk helps you approach the issues in your life in a productive way. Positive self-talk also addresses the following problems in life such as, stress and anxiety, lower self-esteem, mental negativity, etc. “I can never do it”. Instead, I am getting better day-by-day. A positive approach will help you learn your lessons and improve yourself, rather than limiting yourself. Additionally, positive self-talk enhances your psychological well-being.

3) Look for Inspiring People Around: There are two kinds of people in the world: those who always try to pull you down, and those who try to inspire and support you. Always look for people who inspire you to be the best version of yourself. Build relationships with colleagues, friends, and mentors that add value to your life, guide you to achieve your dreams, and always motivate you to be positive in life.
 

4) Meditate for Calmness: Meditation is a healing exercise for the brain. Meditation helps you get rid of unwanted thoughts and embrace inner peace. When your brain is calm, it encourages clarity of thought, which results in productive actions and success.
 

5) Work on Yourself: Self-improvement includes awareness of your strengths and shortcomings and working on new learnings. Try to do the following activities for self-improvement: journal your thoughts; step out of your comfort zone; motivate yourself; and celebrate your accomplishments, even the small ones. Self-improvement will give a boost to your self-confidence and help you attract positivity.
